Denise Calls Up (1995)

Technology kills face-to-face communication in Denise Calls Up (1995), a romantic comedy following the exploits of seven friends living in New York, maintaining their relationships through phone calls and faxes. When Linda (Aida Turturro) throws a birthday party and no one shows up, she lights up the phone to find out why her friends left her high and dry. After discovering that everyone was busy, the film begins to focus on specific relationships. A pregnant Denise (Alanna Ubach) decides to call her sperm donor, Martin (Dan Gunther), while Gail (Dana Wheeler-Nicholson) plays matchmaker for Jerry and Barbara (Levi Schreiber and Caroleen Feeney). When one of the friends meets an untimely death, the wake turns into a conference call. Levi teases us with a semi-nude scene, lying sprawled on a bed with a phone strategically placed over his telephone pole. The glimpse of flesh will have you holding the line.
