When you’re in a TV show named Everything Sucks!, chances are you’re going to end up with a place of honor on Mr. Man, just like Patch Darragh did. Even if that TV show is a TV-14 thing, on Netflix, and about a bunch of high school kids. Patch (who has a very cool name that inspires dreams of pirates, puppies, and Robin Williams) plays Ken Messner in the show, for all ten episodes in 2018. In a beautiful moment (Mr. Man may have swiped at a wayward tear or two), the actor stands in his underpants, holds hands with a lady friend, and the two take a liberating plunge in the school pool while Tori Amos wrenches out her heart in song in the background. He reveals all that plump skin in other episodes, too, giving a hint as to what might possibly be hidden behind those Fruit of the Looms. Back to the beginning, though, where Patch, like so many people chasing their dream,moved from the Michigan town he grew up in to find fame and fortune in New York. After a few lean years with pop-ups in the likes of Law & Order and Damages, he was cast as the recurring character of Tim Flanagon on Mercy from 2009-2010.That led to even more TV shows, and some movies, including Hope Springs (2012) with Meryl Streep, Sully (2016) with Tom Hanks, the role of Doctor Falloway in Brittany Runs a Marathon (2019) with Jillian Bell, and the part of Nick in Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Kimmy vs the Reverend (2020). More prominent TV roles have included Patch playing Russel Armstrong on the Hulu series The Path from 2016-2018, Dave Milgrom on Longmire from 2016-2017, and Ray on HBO’s Successionfrom 2019-2021.
