Biography

With a name like Slim Summerville, you’d think he wouldn’t make audience members feel fat in the pants. But chances are slim to none that you won’t be pleasuring yourself when you see the dude doff his duds! Born under the name of George Somerville at the turn of the last century, the New Mexico native moved to California to find his fortune. After working in a pool hall, the then-young stud was cast as a “Keystone Kop” for Mack Sennett’s Hollywood studio. With his gangly frame and offbeat looks, Summerville made a living with bit parts in silent movies and talkies too. Mainly known for his comedic sensibilities, Slim tickled fans’ funny bones with roles in Hey! Hey! Cowboy (1927), The Shannons of Broadway (1929), See America Thirst (1930), and Love is News (1937). But here at the Mr. Man office, we know Slim for showing off his dramatic side (among other things) in All Quiet on the Western Front (1930). The classic anti-war film features Louis WolheimLew AyresArnold LucyBen Alexander, and Summerville’s bummerville! During a skinny-dipping scene, the 6’2” stunner flashed his abs and ass on camera! There’s nothing like some black and white T&A to get audience members hot and bothered. Perhaps that’s why the Academy awarded the film at the Oscars! With more than 200 credits on his impressive resume, it’s clear that pre-code Hollywood couldn’t get enough of this towering actor. Looking back, Slim is a tall glass of talent that everyone should sip from!
