Review

To put it simply, Ling (Yann Yann Yeo), is lonely, sad, and seemingly trapped alone with an aching heart that is soothed by nothing.  Ling has been teaching Mandarin in Singapore for the last several years and is trapped in a somewhat loveless marriage.  Her and her husband are convinced that having a child will be a solution to their woes, but Ling can't get pregnant, so they are now trying in-vitro fertilization but it seems fruitless after plenty of attempts.  On top of all of this, Ling is saddled with helping to care for her ailing father-in-law and outside it's the start of the monsoon season, so it's raining constantly.  The only glimmer of hope for her is a bright young student in her class, Weilun (Jia Ler Koh).  Weilun is a standout in school but when Ling begins to grow closer to her new favorite student, she realizes that he has been abandoned by his parents and has been fending for himself.  As the teacher and student bond grows between the pair, other feelings begin to bubble to the surface as they both reconcile their shared loneliness, sadness, and eventual connectedness over the traumas of their lives.  The only problem for them is that their relationship is crossing too many lines to be ignored by each other and those around them, which comes crashing to a head during this year's Wet Season.  The lead, Jia Ler Koh, doesn't shy away from showing some serious skin in this one, giving us a peek at his buns with a peek of backsack showing between those cheeks!  It's enough to bring some moisture into our lives!
