Review

When the film titled Justice League directed by Zack Snyder was released in 2017, it was a compromised, two hour film that was finished by another director and bore little resemblance to Snyder's ultimate vision for the film. Personal tragedy kept him from completing it, but when HBO Max launched in late 2020, they knew they were going to need something big to entice subscribers. Hence, they gave Snyder the time, money, and resources to fully flesh out his original plans and the following March, Zack Snyder's Justice League (2021) debuted on the streaming service. Snyder's full version of the film can be watched in one four hour and three minute chunk or broken up into six Snyder approved chapters and an epilogue to consume over several nights. Following the death of Superman (Henry Cavill), Batman (Ben Affleck) has become convinced that Earth is now more vulnerable to attack from greater threats in the universe without a Superman to protect them. Nevermind that Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot), Aquaman (Jason Momoa), The Flash (Ezra Miller), and Cyborg (Ray Fisher) are all hanging around, the power vacuum left by the Kryptonian's death has convinced Bats that something big is heading their way... and he might just be right! Now he's gotta get this ragtag bunch of superheroes to work together as a team or else... yadda yadda yadda. If you've seen a Zack Snyder superhero movie before—300, Watchmen, Man of Steel, Batman v Superman—you know they're loaded with unintentional homoerotic imagery and exchanges. It doesn't hurt to get a heaping helping of shirtless Jason Momoa and a shirtless resurrected Henry Cavill either!
