Following a twelve year absence from feature filmmaking, Oscar winner Jane Campion is back with The Power of the Dog (2021), adapted from the 1967 novel of the same name by Thomas Savage. Set in Montana in the mid 1920s, the film centers on rancher brothers Phil (Benedict Cumberbatch) and George (Jesse Plemons), who make the acquaintance of widowed innkeeper Rose Gordon (Kirsten Dunst) during a cattle drive. While Phil is cruel to both Rose and her son Peter (Kodi Smit-McPhee), George takes an immediate liking of them and it isn't long before Rose and George are joined in matrimony. Rose sends Peter off to a good school using George's money, which causes Phil to resent Rose even more, but before long, Phil starts to take a shine to Peter and begins training him in the rustler ways. However, this causes Rose to sink into an alcoholic depression as she begins to suspect that Phil is interested in Peter romantically, something reinforced by the discovery of several photos of nude men among Phil's belongings. The film takes many twists and turns along the way as the lives of these four characters are changed in various ways by the circumstances and time in which they live. While Jesse Plemons does have a sexy shirtless scene in the tub, everyone's talking about Benedict Cumberbatch's fully nude scenes, one where he washes himself off after getting covered in mud and the other as he chases after Kodi Smit-McPhee while in the middle of bathing! Throw in an all boys skinny dipping scene featuring phenomenal full nudity from Ramontay McConnell among others and the Power of the Dog will give your dog a bone!
