Sure, playing doctor can be loads of fun. But when it comes to actually seeing a professional for a physical examination, the process can be embarrassing. Such is the case in the Swedish flick About A Young Man (2014) starring Simon Broström, not to be confused with the British pic About A Boy (2002) featuring Hugh Grant and Nicholas Hoult. Under the direction of Gabriel Dorobantu, this foreign-language film follows a shy guy named Niklas who, along with his fellow countrymen, must undergo a compulsory medical exam. Like Algeria, Armenia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Belize, Benin, Bermuda, Bolivia, China, Cuba, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Greece, Iran, Israel, Russia, South Korea, and Switzerland, Sweden requests its male residents to be in shape so they may fulfill obligatory military service. The trouble is our leading man must be checked over by a young female physician who just so happens to be his neighbor! Yes, “the girl next door” will explore his nether regions. If that’s not awkward enough, Niklas is secretly in love with her. Even though this sounds like the premise of a romantic comedy, the situation in this drama’s context spells tragedy. In other words, Nik’s trauma turns his daily life into a nightmare, with both suicide and murderous thoughts knocking around his confused mind. Speaking of knocking around heads, we love the (un)coverage of Simon. Per doctor’s orders, the handsome hunk doffs his duds to reveal his abs, ass, sack and cock. After ogling Broström’s bare body, we’d do anything Simon says!
