Before the Devil Knows You're Dead (2007)

With Sidney Lumet behind the camera, audiences expect class. What’s unusual about Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead (2007) is that the director also delivers some ass! This R-rated thriller follows two brothers — Andy (Philip Seymour Hoffman) and Hank (Ethan Hawke) — as they conspire to rob the jewelry shop owned by their parents Charles (Albert Finney) and Nanette (Rosemary Harris) Hanson. Andy is a financial executive who has his hand in the cookie jar so he can support his drug habit. On the other hand, Hank needs money to pay three months’ back child support and to cover the cost of his daughter’s tuition. But when the robbery goes murderously wrong, the stealing siblings find themselves at each other’s throats. Throw in some adulterous action with Hank banging Andy’s trophy wife Gina (Marisa Tomei), and it’s only a matter of time before the family cracks. Speaking of crack, you’ll become a horny little devil while ogling the bare back and bum on Mr. Hoffman when he bangs his babe doggy-style in bed. Mr. Hawke also displays his naked T&A while enjoying some post-poke pillow talk. The movie includes Amy Ryan, Michael Shannon, and Brían F. O’Byrne’s skin. As the thieving Bobby Lasorda, the latter actor steals the scene when he touts his hairy chest and bulging briefs. So, that’s why the pic was named Best Cast at the Gotham Independent Film Awards, the Satellite Awards, and by the Boston Society of Film Critics. Talk about the luck of the devil!
