Hollywood (2020)

Brief Nudity

Review

Hit creator Ryan Murphy captures the debauchery behind the silver screen in the homoerotic saga Hollywood (2020). Not to be confused with the R rated crime flick Hollywoodland (2006), this miniseries explores the glitzy facade and seedy underbelly of Tinsel Town’s Golden Age. Set in the 1940s, the drama follows aspiring actor and World War II vet Jack Castello (David Corenswet); closeted gay studio executive Dick Samuels (Joe Mantello); ingénue Claire Wood (Samara Weaving); acting mentor Ellen Kincaid (Holland Taylor); and emerging screenwriter Archie Coleman (Jeremy Pope) who is a Black homosexual facing prejudice. Similarly, wannabe director Raymond Ainsley (Darren Criss) and up-and-coming actress Camille Washington (Laura Harrier) hope to be a Hollywood power couple despite their ethnicities. The show also offers depictions inspired by real life people such as Ernie West (Dylan McDermott) who is based on sex trafficker Scotty Bowers as well as fictionalized versions of leading man Rock Hudson (Jake Picking) and talent agent Henry Willson (Jim Parsons). The latter dons boxers and a bra in episode 3, which also includes Jake’s naked T&A! Throughout the series, Mr. Picking can also be seen swapping spit with a shirtless Mr. Pope. If that’s not hot enough, Mr. Corenswet steams up the lens when he wears nothing but tighty whities in episode 1. By episode 2, he and a topless Mr. Criss appear to enjoy some oral action. Now, that’s what we call a studio head! Throw in Mr. McDermott’s hairy chest and all we can say is hurray for Hollywood!
