The 2015 biography I Am Michael tells the fascinating and controversial story of the liberal gay man turned conservative straight pastor, Michael Glatze (James Franco). In his early life, Michael lived with his boyfriend Bennett (Zachary Quinto) in San Francisco, where he wrote for the uber gay XY Magazine, got down and dirty with the fellas, and fought for gay rights. Michael's gay ol' time comes to a halt when he rejects his former self and transforms into an anti-gay pastor. He switches out Bennett for Rebekah (Emma Roberts) (downgrade central) and dedicates his life to preaching against the sins of homosexuality.
As always, Franco is dedicated to his craft here, and doesn't mind really selling the young Michael by getting gay with some hot guys!
