In the Realm of the Senses (1976)

Nagisa Oshima’s In the Realm of the Senses (1976) is the granddaddy of all art films. Also known as Empire of the Senses and Bullfight of Love, this Japanese flick boasts taboo-busting content and un-simulated sex! Based on a true story, the pre-war tale of erotic obsession follows a man named Kichizō Ishida (Tatsuya Fuji) whose passion for his female servant Sada Abe (Eiko Matsuda) drives him to the brink of death and insanity. Throughout the course of the story, the NC-17 film runs the gamut of kinky sex — ranging from strangulation to strange insertions. In other words, there’s very little that’s left to the imagination. As expected, the naked leading man shows off every inch of his lean mean physique. Yes, we get to see his naked chest and all of the rest, including his butt cheeks and erect peen throughout the racy pic. He even releases a load into a woman’s mouth after she blows him at the 15-minute mark. Later, Tatsuya stuffs an egg in Eiko’s vagina. Perhaps they’re confused by the idea of getting laid. In another scene, the cocky Mr. Fuji gives us a full frontal view of his junk. Of course, we’re hoping his penis is prosthetic when it gets chopped off! If that’s not enough to see, an old beggar man (Taiji Tonoyama) adds his flesh to this skintastic movie. Check out his exposed bottom at the top of the flick. With so much nudity on display, you’ll forget you have to read subtitles!
