Pola X (1999)

After releasing the classic “Moby-Dick; or, The Whale” in 1851, novelist Herman Melville whipped out his Moby Dick … follow-up: “Pierre: or, The Ambiguities” (1852), also known as “Pierre ou les ambiguïtés” in France. More than a century later, filmmaker Léos Carax turned the title into an acronym (Pola) and added an X to indicate the ten drafts it took him to create the final screenplay for Pola X (1999). And you thought the X was a rating! The skinternational flick is set in contemporary France where a successful young writer named Pierre (Guillaume Depardieu) lives with his manipulative mother (Catherine Deneuve). Although he’s romantically involved with his pretty cousin Lucie (Delphine Chuillot), Pierre falls for the mysterious Isabelle (Yekaterina Golubeva, aka Katerina Golubeva) who claims to be his half-sister. Oh brother! As you can guess, one thing leads to another and before you can say “c’est la vie,” the protagonists are in agony. Despite this fact, you may enjoy a happy ending. That’s because the French insist on seeing flesh in their movies. In fact, there’s a nice shot of Monsieur Depardieu as he gets undressed for bed. His bare chest and delectable derrière are on display as well as a bit of his bouncy ball sack. Later, the nude dude reveals his rock-hard hard-on when he literally gets into his lucky lady love at the 01:19:53 mark. While Guillaume’s rigid rod is devoured in different ways, Mr. Man wishes he had a foreign tongue. In other words, vive le peen!
