Review

The works of Welsh filmmaker Peter Greenaway are influenced by Renaissance, Baroque and Flemish paintings; the movies of Ingmar Bergman, Jean-Luc Godard and Alain Resnais; and lots and lots of skin! This is especially true when it comes to his erotic drama The Pillow Book (1995), not to be confused with the Rock Hudson and Doris Day rom-com Pillow Talk (1959). In this kinky flick, flesh fans meet Nagiko (Vivian Wu), a Japanese model who wants to experience life via various lovers. And if these guys are into poetry and calligraphy, it’s for the better since she enjoys writing all over them. As such, the exotic hottie seduces Jerome (Ewan McGregor) by inking all over his chest. The bare bloke can be seen with and without calligraphy on nearly every inch of his physique. In other words, Ewan’s privates are made public throughout this pic! He also canoodles with a naked publisher (Yoshi Oida). Of course, one thing leads to another and before you know it, there’s a tragic finish. But don’t let that ruin your happy ending since the film is full of naked men! In addition to Mr. McGregor’s McJunk, other hunks vie for your erection, erh attention as they raise their freak flags while lowering their trunks. Martin Tukker exposes his ass, sack and shaft. The same can collectively be said of Chris Bearne, Hori Daishi, Kheim Lam, Kinya Tsuruyama, Rick Waney, Tom Kane, Wataru Murofushi, and Wichert Dromkert. The Pillow Book cast will have you biting your pillow!
