The Lover (1992)

Before Josh Hartnett searched for Tamsin Egerton in The Lovers (2015) and Tracy Letts romanced Debra Winger in The Lovers (2017), Jean-Jacques Annaud directed and co-wrote The Lover (1992). Set in 1929 Indochina, this erotic drama focuses on a French colonial family and their unnamed teenaged daughter (Jane March). The pretty girl is pretty depressed by her impoverished life. But one day, while commuting to school in Saigon, she meets a sexy older Chinese aristocrat (Tony Leung Ka-fai). Even though he has no idea who she is, he’s instantly smitten. As such, he offers her a ride in his car so she doesn’t have to take public transportation like the peasants (or something like that). The next day, the savvy seducer waits for her outside of school and takes her to a seedy hotel where he normally brings his mistresses. As you can guess, they begin a rampant sex-a-thon that turns into a full-fledged affair! Despite the fact that they don’t want either of their families to know about the tryst, they take the risk to continue seeing each other. Ultimately, the Chinese man must engage in an arranged marriage, but not before we see every inch of his bare body! Tony touts his naked T&A in the shower and goes full frontal during an equally steamy bedroom scene. Talk about an affair to remember! Also known as L’Amant, this French flick features dialogue in English, Cantonese and Vietnamese. Yet whenever the leading man flashes his flesh, there’s no need to speak!
