Love & Mercy (2014)

Love & Mercy (2014) follows famous Beach Boys songwriter and musician Brian Wilson through the most miraculous yet painstaking phases of his life. Told with two different actors—Paul Dano and John Cusack—the movie takes us from Brian's early career and whirlwind success in the 60s all the way to his nervous breakdown and court-mandated supervision by Dr. Eugene Landy in the late 80s and early 90s. Young Brian and middle-aged Brian's stories are masterfully intertwined, showing how he connected (and didn't connect) with the people he so profoundly influenced. For a guy that had two wives, he drops his pants surprisingly few times, but do we a few shots of Paul Dano without his shirt on. Thankfully he decided to show us a little mercy.
