Margot at the Wedding (2007)

Margot at the Wedding (2007), writer-director Noah Baumbach’s follow-up to the crit hit The Squid and the Whale (2005), stars comely Nicole Kidman as a bright, tart-tongued, trouble-stirring short story scribbler who’s out to surprise her sis with some serious chaos. Jennifer Jason Leigh is the sibling in question, and all she wants is to marry slacker Jack Black in peace. Naturally Nic shows up for the wedding to foment some torment. She doesn’t cotton to Jack. . . and she isn’t quiet about it. As the big hitching day approaches, things get increasingly complicated, and things go wrong not only with Nic (who has her own marital mess to deal with) but also with vindictive neighbors and a much-loved backyard tree. One thing does go right, though: Jack Black shows his surprisingly sexy, cake-filled buns that will have you grinning.
