Firstborn (2009)

Firstborn (2009) is a South African movie originally titled Eersgeborene in Afrikaans. Basically, Etienne Kallos decided to make a gay version of African Gothic, a play by his mentor Reza de Wet. He crafted his short film in Afrikaans, submitted it to the Venice Film Festival and won "Best Short Film." It's defintiley a film that'll make your pants a bit shorter! African Gothic is all about two orphaned siblings living on a dilapidated farm who are confronted by a lawyer looking to finalize their aunt's will. Eventually we realize that they've been doing some weird stuff together on that farm, and the mere presence of an outsider's judgement forces them to realize how uncool their behavior has been. In Kallos' version, two brothers (Hennie Janse van Rensburg and Hennie Lambrechts) live with their parents in the middle of nowhere on an emu and sheep farm. Their parents are rather cruel to them, likely because it's very clear these brothers have the hots for each other. After witnessing them doing dirty stuff together, the parents try to break up the pair, so they kill their parents. Eventually some lawyers show up on the farm asking questions, and our set of brother-lovers have to come up with a believable story. We adore how sexy Hennie Janse van Rensburg looks when he dares to take off his pants.
