Romeos (2011) is a romantic drama about the complexities of love, and is notable for its exploration of gender identity. Even the most… probing… gay movies out there often skirt around trans issues, which are becoming more prevalent in society as an increasing number of people feel confortable identifying as their true selves. A precursor to Transparent and The Danish Girl (2015), Romeos follows the love story between Lukas (Rick Okon), a transgender man, and Fabio (Maximilian Befort), a bisexual. The movie isn’t afraid to address issues regarding being transgender, including a scene in which Lukas’ prosthetic penis is found and then tossed around at a rowdy party.
Speaking of something that’s not prosthetic, we also give kudos to Romeos for knowing true below the belt talent when they see it!
