Rustin (2023)

The unflinching Netflix biopic Rustin managed to introduce millions of people to a massive historical figure who had been right under their noses. Bayard Rustin was the one and only Martin Luther King Jr.'s right-hand man, and was integral in orchestrating the historic 1963 March On Washington, which is where King delivered his I Have A Dream speech. So why haven't we heard of Rustin before? He was unapologetically and openly gay during a time in which being out was all but a professional death kneel, even in the world of political activism. It's fitting that Rustin the movie was released on the 60th anniversary of the March On Washington, and now the entire world can know about Bayard Rustin's groundbreaking contribution to American history. Are we complaining that the man who plays Rustin, Colman Domingo, is a hottie, or that he hooks up with his lover Elias (Johnny Ramey) on screen? No, no we are not. We love when Rustin gets to thrustin'!
