Say My Name (2018)

There’s more than one movie about a one night stand. In the coming-of-age period piece American Graffiti (1973), Terry (Charles Martin Smith) comes on to Debbie (Candy Clark) with a bit of success. When entertainment anchor Alison (Katherine Heigl) and slacker Ben (Seth Rogen) get it on in Judd Apatow’s racy romp Knocked Up (2007), the characters reluctantly create a baby. And the chance meeting between American tourist Jesse (Ethan Hawke) and French student Céline (Julie Delpy) goes so well in Before Sunrise (1995), two romantic sequels arise! On the darker side, Martin Scorsese’s black comedy After Hours (1985) follows the downward spiral of a New York businessman (Griffin Dunne) who just wants to get home after unsuccessfully trying to hook up. If that’s not unlucky enough, the thriller Queen & Slim (2019) sees a criminal defense attorney (Jodie Turner-Smith) and a guy (Daniel Kaluuya) she met on Tinder having a killer first date — and not in a good way. The same can be said for Say My Name (2018). Not to be confused with Call Me by Your Name (2017), this British rom-com centers around Mary Page (Lisa Brenner) and Statton Taylor (Nick Blood). While enjoying a one night stand, robbers break into their hotel. As such, the couple must navigate a seedy Welsh island to reclaim their stolen goods. Along the way, we encounter Dec (Mark Bonnar), Father Donald Davies (Alan Cox), Officer Sedgwick (Jamie de Courcey), and the naked T&A on Mr. Blood — which runs very hot!
