The Last Match (2013)

Set in the slums of Havana, Cuba, the homoerotic drama The Last Match (2013) follows Reinier (Reinier Díaz), a young father that supports his wife and child by turning tricks with older male foreigners. During the day, Reinier plays soccer with his best bud Yosvani (Milton García) and shifts aimlessly throughout his existence. Even though he’s engaged to a wealthy woman and holds a lucrative job working for a loan shark (Luis Alberto Garcia), the father of his fiancée, Yosvani’s life is equally as unsatisfying. But after a furtive kiss while out clubbing together, followed by a rooftop railing, Reinier and Yosvani fall madly in love with each other. Being gay in Cuba isn’t easy, and the two lovers find it difficult to maintain their love affair under the judgmental eye of a ignorant society.
