The Serpent (2021)

No Nudity

Review

Not too many people have heard the real-life tale of The Serpent aka Charles Sobhraj (Tahar Rahim).  It's always the obscure serial killers that end up getting a little lost in history, but Charles was one of the worst and most evasive mass killers of all time and this Netflix series digs into his crimes over a two year period.  Charles was originally born in Saigon, Vietnam in the mid 40s, and by the time be was in his late 20s, he was a cold blooded monster.  The Serpent aka The Bikini Killer aka The Splitter Killer went by plenty of aliases as that was kind of his forte over the years.  The Serpent seemed to be the coolest nickname, but it also was accurate to how he would hunt his victims, with the cunning and ruthlessness of a snake.  What he would do was stalk and kill various hippies who would travel through the "Hippie Trail" in Southeast Asia, specifically through Thailand.  He would drug, rob, then kill his victims, but to make matters worse, he would then take their passports and like an evil chameleon, would then travel the world as his victims.  Then along with the help of his girlfriend, Marie-Andrée Leclerc (Jenna Coleman), he would venture into other countries to fence the goods.  He was truly a ruthless monster who killed over a dozen backpackers and his good looks, charm, ability to disguise himself, and proclivity to kill without conscious led him to be one of the most prolific killers in history.  Lucky for us though, to play a Bundy-Esque serial killer like Charles, you need someone with some serious sexiness going on and the series tapped Tahar Rahim to be the bad guy and he shows some bulge for a bit.  The series also brings us a little 70s chest fuzz on the foxy Fabien Frankel too!
