The Sting (1973) is a goofy comedy made in the 1970s and set decades before that in 1936 was so well-praised and beloved that it actually won 7 Academy Awards - including Best Picture. We love to see a comedy win Best Picture! The film uses ragtime as the backdrop for a story about 30s conmen trying to make a good buck. Paul Newman and Robert Redford star in this comedy from George Roy Hill about two con men who try to pull off the biggest grift of their careers. The Depression Era conmen come from Joliet, Illinois, and wind up going to Chicago for bigger cons. These two con $11,000 in cash from a victim who doesn't know anything about their shady dealings. A corrupt Joliet police officer learns about the scam and wants in. He demands a cut in exchange for not ratting those two out which leads to one of the guys running away to Chicago to escape legal action. This is a big chase from Joliet to Chicago to try and get these guys to go to the link. Murder, money, and wacky hijinks will entertain you endlessly in this movie. Robert Redford gets into a load of trouble in this film, but it's easy to see why people would chase after him after we get to see him shirtless in one scene. He shows off his and tanned chest with blond hairs on it when he gets out of bed sans shirt. His hotness has got to sting!
