Mega-stars Robert Redford and Barbra Streisand heat up the screen in the romantic classic The Way We Were (1973), not to be confused with the romantic comedy The Way We Weren’t (2018). Based on the same-named novel by Arthur Laurents, this box office hit came in at #6 on the AFI’s “100 Years...100 Passions” list of the 100 greatest love stories in American cinema. The film begins after World War II when military man Hubbell Gardiner (Redford) is an aspiring writer at college. Activist Katie Morosky (Streisand) attends classes and catches his eye (as well as another part of his anatomy). Although they have different backgrounds and political bents, the two start dating, marry and then head out west so he can work as a screenwriter in the film industry. But when the anti-communist movement sweeps through Hollywood, Hubbell’s career, marriage, and life is in danger. Of course, you’ll be in danger of losing your cool when you get a gander at Mr. Redford in his pretty prime. In one sexy scene, the gorgeous guy is shown shirtless in bed. Once the tea kettle goes off, he awakens and sits up. As such, we get to ogle his hairy chest! Better yet, he falls back asleep with the blankets down to his waist. Even when he snores, it’s music to our ears. Perhaps that’s why the movie’s theme song by Marvin Hamlisch received an Oscar, Golden Globe and Grammy. Nevertheless, Mr. Man has a statuette in his pants for the Sundance Kid!
