Grease (1978)

An absolute box office phenomenon in its day, Grease (1978) brought the hit Broadway musical to the screen and helped to cement the super stardom of leading man John Travolta! Everyone's favorite Sweathog took on the role of Danny Zuko, the coolest dude at Rydell High, who has a summer romance with an out of town girl named Sandy (Olivia Newton-John) before heading back to school for his senior year. Unbeknownst to him, Sandy has now transferred to Rydell, and she's expecting Danny to be the sweet and sensitive soul she fell for this summer and not the devil may care bad boy image he projects at school. Sandy falls in with the popular girls clique known as the Pink Ladies, led by Stockard Channing's Rizzo, hoping to make herself over into the girl of Danny's dreams. Meanwhile, Danny spends his time trying to convince his buddies the T-Birds—including Kenichie (Jeff Conaway), Doody (Barry Pearl), Sonny (Michael Tucci), and Putzie (Kelly Ward)—that he hasn't gone soft in the pursuit of a nice girl like Sandy. Hit songs from the musical like "Summer Nights" and "Greased Lightning" combined with newly written songs like "Hopelessly Devoted to You" and "You're the One That I Want" made this film an instant classic that continues to endure nearly a half century after its release! It also doesn't hurt that there's some sexiness in the mix, with John Travolta nicely bulging out in some athletic shorts and the trio of Barry Pearl, Michael Tucci, and Kelly Ward mooning the band Sha Na Na at prom! Grease will have you reaching for the lube!
