Review

In the goofy comedy Hearts of the West (1975), Lewis Tater (Jeff Bridges) is a 1930s-era aspiring writer of western novels who heads to Hollywood with a diploma from a phony writing correspondence school. After learning that he was duped by a dishonest duo, the Zane Grey wannabe stumbles upon a filming crew shooting a low-budget western. Lewis is given a job by movie manager Kessler (Alan Arkin), and eventually finds love with the set script girl Miss Trout (Blythe Danner), all the while being hunted by the correspondence course crooks. There’s not much skin in the pseudo Wild West. A soaked Bridges stands in the bathtub, showing his defined upper body. It’s just enough flesh to jangle your spurs.
