Washington Black (2025)

The 2025 series Washington Black is a Hulu drama series based on Esi Edugyan's novel of the same name, following the 19th century exploits of former slave George Washington Black, or Wash (Ernest Kingsley Jr). Following a terrible accident which is sure to get him killed, Wash is aided in his escape by longtime friend Christopher "Titch" Wilde (Tom Ellis). Titch is determined to get to Northern Canada, where his father is said to be living, and entices Wash to come along in search of this utopia where former slaves live in freedom. There's a touch of steampunk in their exploits, but this is an old fashioned adventure story through and through, particularly once their paths diverge! Though there's no nudity in the first season, we do get a shirtless scene from series star Ernest Kingsley Jr. in episode seven, while bareknuckle boxer Billy McGee, played by Edward Bluemel, gives us some bloody good shirtlessness as well!
