Kindred is an FX series that brings the seminal 1979 book to life for the first time on screen. Mallori Johnson plays a Black woman named Dana James who is just kicking off her relationship with a man in 2016 Los Angeles. However she randomly gets transported to a plantation in the antebellum South, where she faces the daily horrors that slaves faced. Dana is uncontrollably pulled back and forth between these two vastly different time periods and locals. But she can be trapped in the antebellum South for days or even months, with only minutes passing in her current-day Los Angeles life. What's a girl to do?
