American Fiction (2023)

The satirical comedy film America Fiction stars Jeffrey Wright as a well-educated Black man who goes by the name Monk. He's frustrated with his profession as he feels that only Black writers who cater to stereotypes in their work are successful. Case in point - his earnest work so far has not panned out. He doesn't sell well and he doesn't have fans. So what does Monk do? In a fit of indignation, he writes a wildly stereotypical novel that, to his surprise, ends up being a hit. He's even offered $750K for the novel, and it is developed into a screenplay. American Fiction takes a meta turn later in the movie, but we'll stop with the spoilers and get to the spoils! Speaking of stereotypes, Sterling K. Brown plays a gay man who has lots of sex and is addicted to drugs. His character Clifford Ellison is a plastic surgeon and we get to see him shirtless as well as sharing a smooch. As if that isn't enough to wet your whistle check out some saucy shirtless action from Alexander Pobutsky and Joshua Olumide. American Fiction? More like American Friction!
