From legendary British director Terence Davies (The Long Day Closes, A Quiet Passion) comes Benediction (2022), based on the true story of renowned British poet Siegfried Sassoon, played here by Jack Lowden. The film tells the story of Sassoon's service in the first World War and how he became a staunch anti-war advocate following his service, going so far as to publicly come out against the British government's hawkish approach to foreign policy, making him a darling of the aristocracy. The film also deals with Sassoon's struggles to live openly as a gay man, denying his own sexuality throughout most of his life and never publicly coming out. In fact, the film's steamiest scene is also one of its most melancholy as Jack Lowden and Jeremy Irvine strip off their shirts and start making out before they're caught Tom Blyth and immediately stop.
