Review

While it is not the Cinderella story that the original Caddyshack (1980) was, Caddyshack II (1988) does have some funny and memorable parts. It finds the guys under siege by a wealthy tycoon who buys the club and turns it into an amusement park.  Dan Aykroyd steps in to fill the role of the lovable, crazy guy whose job is to keep the tycoon’s plan from becoming a success. Aykroyd was not only tasked with carrying the comedy, he also had to shoulder the nudity load and he did so with his famous crack.

As Mr. Murray did before, Mr. Aykroyd finds himself doing battle with that pesky gopher. In one scene as he bends over to place some explosives while hunting the gopher his pants fall down and his famous plumber’s crack fills the screen. Mr. Aykroyd nearly single handedly made the plumber’s crack an iconic comedic staple when he debuted it on Saturday Night Live. He has gone on to use it in other roles where it never fails to get a laugh. Along the way he has turned plumbers, construction workers and pretty much any guy who bends over a lot and flashes his crack a source of great laughter for some and an unlikely sex symbol for others.

Caddyshack II may not go down in history as a great movie and it may not be filled with skin, but Dan Aykroyd and his plumber’s crack are always a welcome sight.
