No film in cinema history has ever exuded such "I've arrived late to the party" energy as Can't Stop the Music (1980), the film starring vehicle for disco superstars The Village People. Arriving in theaters almost a full year after Chicago's infamous Disco Demolition event, it's about as ludicrous as films get with fashion model Suzanne (Valerie Perrine) helping her roommate Jack (Steve Guttenberg) get a job as a songwriter, "discovering" The Village People and pairing their talent with Jack's music in a can't miss proposition. Or, at least, it would've been had it come out 2-3 years before it did, but this all-time stinker still has its charms, not least among them a young Steve Guttenberg going shirtless just before the ten minute mark! Just as the filmmakers of the similarly late to the party Xanadu (1980) would find out two months later, you can, in fact, stop the music.
