The only thing rivaling the storied production of 1984’s Dune is the fact that the sci-fi cult classic offers a glimpse of Sting in some insane metal undies! The movie, based on Frank Herbert’s 1965 book of the same name, is helmed by the talented but quirky David Lynch. Due to unyielding studio compromises, Lynch ended up all but disowning the flick (in some versions he uses a pseudonym in the credits) and it was a commercial flop. However, cult classics often aren’t born from success, and over the years Dune has been embraced by sci-fi enthusiasts everywhere! If you've read the book or seen one of the later adaptations, the story should be familiar to you, but Lynch switched some stuff up. The film takes place in 10,191, and everyone in the universe is concerned with obtaining the precious and powerful spice melange. Melange both enables space travel and extends lives, but it's only available on the desert planet Dune, formally known as Arrakis. Twin Peaks star Kyle MacLachlan is Paul Atreides, a rich kid whose parents are sent to Arrakis so that they can control the planet. But when they get there, the Atreides family is attacked by the Harkonnen family, led by Baron Vladimir (Kenneth McMillan). It's a slaughter, and soon enough Paul is sent fleeing to the desert and taking refuge with the native Fremen. There, he'll fall in love with one of their members (Sean Young) and plan his revolt to take back Arrakis from the Harkonnen! While fans weren't happy with Lynch's decision to change the futuristic fighting style of the books because he was scared it would look like a martial arts movie, the change that should have bothered them was not getting to see Sting's thing! Now that would have been spicy! Yes, apparently Sting was supposed to go full frontal, but his agents panicked at the last minute and made the costume designers throw together a cod piece. Sting is the evil Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen, who we see walking through some steam in nothing but a metal Speedo. We'd like to give that rock star a kiss on Arrakis! His work in Dune will make you swoon!
