On the headless heels of the brain-splattering horror classic Re-Animator (1985), writer-director Stuart Gordon turns again to the way-out works of author H.P. Lovecraft for From Beyond (1986). Also returning are stars Jeffrey Combs, as our scientist hero, and Barbara Crampton, this time in the guise of a psychiatrist. Dr. Edward Pretorius (Ted Sorel) creates a machine called "The Resonator" that allows people to see beyond our own five senses, into entirely different realms of being. His assistant Dr. Crawford Tillinghast (Jeffrey Combs) becomes obsessed with the machine, only to end up decapitated by one of the beings from beyond. The jury doesn't buy that story, so Dr. Pretorius goes down on murder charges and has to meet up with Dr. Katherine McMichaels (Barbara Crampton) to figure out how he came up with such a crazy story. Thanks to his weirdly enlarged pineal gland, she believes him and takes him out of lockdown to rebuild the machine. Only, when they start the thing they find a monster version of Dr. Tillinghast. Now, it's Katherine who becomes obsessed with the Resonator's potential and manages to make things even worse. Crawford will start craving brains, she'll end up being deemed insane, and precisely zero good will come from The Resonator. What really resonated with Mr. Man in this story of science gone amok are the scenes where men take their clothes off! Ken Foree ends up running around in a pink Speedo when the buff black babe best known for Dawn of the Dead (1978) tries to chase down one of our scientists! We sure love his biology! Then, Ted Sorel's tush is appropriately soaked as he emerges from The Resonator covered in pink goo! It's a very well-toned and tight tookus that lights up the screen! Mr. Man was beyond excited to see Ted's booty in From Beyond!
