Although Eden is synonymous with paradise, it becomes problematic when various filmmakers use the word for their projects. In other words, it’s difficult to differentiate Shyam Madiraju’s Malaysian movie Eden (2014) from the same-named French flick that was released the same year. Nevertheless, Mr. Man wants to fill you in on Mia Hansen-Løve’s Eden (2014), not to be confused with the Australian series Eden (2021) or the Hollywood classic East of Eden (1955) starring James Dean. In this pic, we enter the world of underground electronic music in France. Here, an upstart disc jockey called Paul (Félix de Givry) surrounds himself with his friends and fellow DJs as he explores a nightlife filled with sex, drugs and techno tunes. Julia (Greta Gerwig) and Larry (Brady Corbet) are among the hip hangers-on as well as Anaïs (Zita Hanrot), Louise (Pauline Étienne), Margot (Laura Smet), Nico (Laurent Cazanave), Thomas (Vincent Lacoste), and Yasmin (Golshifteh Farahani). The R rated pic also includes Hugo Conzelmann, Vincent Macaigne, and Monsieur de Givry’s de skin! In one scene, Félix struts his stuff while wearing boxers and playing around with his girlfriend when getting dressed. A little later we get another great view of the dude donning a pair of shorts as he lays out in the sun by the pool. If that doesn’t get you wet, check out a shirtless Cyril (Roman Kolinka) as he answers the door. Ding dong! Even though this foreign film features dialogue in French, we become speechless whenever the actors flash their flesh!
