Matthias & Maxime (2019)

Matthias and Maxime (2019) is the eighth feature film from acclaimed French-Canadian filmmaker Xavier Dolan. Lifelong friends Matthias (Gabriel D’Almeida Freitas) and Maxime (Xavier Dolan) at a crossroads in their lives. Matthias is slowly working his way up the corporate ladder while Maxime is coasting through life as a bartender and is entertaining the notion of moving to Australia. Shortly before Maxime is set to leave, the two friends are roped into appearing in a student film where they will have to kiss onscreen, the aftermath of which sends Matthias spiraling into an identity crisis. Sadly the film never takes things beyond Gabriel D'Almeida Freitas and Xavier Dolan's kiss, which is hot and layered with all manner of subtext, but it might have been nice to have these two guys go a little bit further!
