Friendship! (2010)

When the popular sitcom Friends (1994-2003) left the small screen, the big screen picked up the slack with plenty of pal-themed productions — from the rom-com Friends with Benefits (2011) and the musical We Are Your Friends (2015) to the holiday romps Friendsgiving (2020) and Vacation Friends (2021). In between the releases of these American pics is the German flick Friendship! (2010). Set in 1989, this fish-out-of-water farce follows Veit (Friedrich Mücke) and Tom (Matthias Schweighöfer). They’re best buds who leave their native Berlin to travel to San Francisco. Veit wants to see his father, who took off twelve years prior. But because the guys lack the right amount of cash, they can only make it to New York. As such, these funny foreigners must thumb their way to the City by the Bay. Needless to say, their journey leads to many hilarious hijinks, especially when they stop at a strip club and a gay bar. Did we mention the adventurous fellows also have a run-in with the law? It all leads to a look at Mr. Schweighöfer’s abs, underpants and bare ass! If that’s not hot enough, Mr. Mücke steams up the screen when he flaunts his physique in multiple scenes. Just three minutes into the plot, the topless dudes show off their bulging briefs to the cops. No wonder, this flick won Best German Film and Best Fiddling at the MTV Movie Awards. As you can guess, Friendship! also earned a a standing ovation in Mr. Man’s pants. Danke Schoen!
