How to Beat the High Co$t of Living (1980)

The crime comedy How to Beat the High Co$t of Living (1980) is set in the suburbs of Eugene, Oregon and follows three women who have been friends since high school, Jane (Susan Saint James), Elaine (Jane Curtin), and Louise (Jessica Lange), who find themselves cash-strapped. Jane is divorced, trying to raise her kids; Elaine’s hubby left her with nothing; and Louise’s antiques store is going under. They need money, and they need it now. When the chicks make a trip to the local mall, they soon see the solution to all their money problems—a large, clear ball full of cash for a give away contest. Together, the gals put together a scheme to remove the contents of the ball. Never mind the ladies’ hijinks, because both Fred Willard and Richard Benjamin lose their shirts. Priceless!
