Mickey Rourke is back on the beat in Oscar winning director Michael Cimino's hard-boiled thriller Year of the Dragon (1985)! Based on the novel of the same name—with a screenplay credited to both Cimino and Oliver Stone—the film follows Stanley White (Rourke), a highly regarded detective who is reassigned to the toughest beat in New York City, Chinatown. With crime and gang warfare raging nonstop, Vietnam vet White brings his own personal prejudices with him into a part of the city that doesn't play by the rules of the NYPD. White soon discovers that his biggest problem is going to be the ambitious young Joey Tai, played by The Last Emperor's John Lone, a man determined to become the head of the Chinese Triad. When White uncovers a deal that involves the Italian mafia crossing over into Chinatown's heroin trade, things only become dicier for the already beleaguered detective. To top it all off, the married cop even gets involved in an illicit affair with a Chinese news reporter (Ariane), giving him an emotional investment in the area he didn't need. Sadly, 1985 wasn't the year of Mickey's dragon, as he keeps his pants on throughout the film's entire 135 minute running time! Thankfully there is a brief shot of him laying shirtless in bed with the covers only pulled up to his waist! Hey, it's not nothing, but it's also nothing to write home about! Year of the Dragon will have you singing Oh Mickey you're so fine, you're so fine you blow our minds, hey Mickey! Let's See That Dickey!
