Biography

The sexy John Gavin was SO tall, dark, and handsome that he had Hollywood spiraling over him. He was actually a fifth-generation Los Angeles native and was of Mexican, Spanish, and Chilean descent from old landowners in Spanish-ruled California. He was a real old-school Californian! He debuted in 1956's Behind the High Wall and was considered the next Rock Hudson - in fact, the resemblance to Rock helped start his career right after his stint in the military. This Latin lover continued his work by acting in other classics like Imitation of Life, Spartacus, Convoy, Thoroughly Modern Millie, A Time to Love and A Time to Die, and many more. This 6'4" stunner has worked in TV, film, and even on Broadway. He was even appointed as Ambassador to Mexico during Reagan's presidency. John Gavin made movie history not just for playing Sam Loomis in the Hitchcock classic Psycho in 1960, but for starting the film with his shirtless body. Seriously! The movie opens on the couple in their underwear, both getting dressed, and the suggestion is that the two of them were just having sex for a little afternoon delight. Hollywood movies were still under the strict Hays Code at the time and this movie helped change that by breaking several rules including this one right off the bat. Thank goodness it did because those firm biceps and shoulders look amazing. His chest fuzz on his chiseled pecs looks particularly artistic in black-and-white. He's a walking work of art! Sadly, John passed away in 2018.
