Minyan (2020)

After making a name for himself with the ultra-controversial Golden Gate Bridge suicide documentary The Bridge (2006), director Eric Steel set his sights on the world of fiction with his adaptation of a David Bezmozgis short story, Minyan (2020). Set in 1980's Brooklyn, Samuel H. Levine plays David, the gay seventeen-year-old Jewish son of immigrants from Russia. David's parents are pretty terrible to him, so he moves in with his grandpa (Ron Rifkin). Gramps lives in an apartment that also features a pair of really close male friends who've lived together for years. Wink, wink. Of course, David sees through Herschel (Christopher McCann) and Itzik's (Mark Margolis) lifelong bachelors charade, and eventually the couple opens David's eyes to the world of possibilities that await him as a gay man in 1980s New York City. However, David's urge to explore his dude dick destiny stands in stark contrast to his devotion to his conservative family. Don't worry, eventually he'll learn to love himself and his desire to get it up the bum, right in time for the AIDS epidemic to come along and spoil the fun. Bummer. Thankfully, before that happens Samuel H. Levine does put himself out there, even if he doesn't officially come out of the closet. He sleeps over at Alex Hurt's apartment, and the following morning, the two men have crazy hot sex after a long chat, that lets us see all sorts of ass! Hurts so good! Minyan also includes a nudity-filled shower scene, in which David is bullied by some nude dudes for ogling his whitey tightey wearing rabbi (Jonathan Raviv). We get to see Drew Reade, Riley Barnes and even a little bit of Zane Paris nude during the locker room brawl. Those hotties that are Jewish will keep your balls from looking blue-ish! A coming-of-age tale about accepting who you want to screw, Minyan provides more than the bare minimum of barenaked dudes!
