Monica (2022)

The indie drama Monica (2023) is a true passion project for its star Trace Lysette. The trans actress stars as Monica, a trans woman returning to her Midwestern home for the first time since leaving as a teenager, in order to care for her dying mother (Patricia Clarkson). Uncertain if her mother will even recognize or remember her, Monica is hoping to heal the wounds of her past before her mother passes away, though to paraphrase Faulkner by way of P.T. Anderson, Monica may be through with the past but the past isn't through with her!
