The early aughts—really the entire decade of the 2000s—was spent by many, many horror movies desperate to launch a new franchise and an icon new slasher for the new millennium, but most of them ended up in the land that time forgot like Skinned Deep (2004). The film centers around a killer known as The Surgeon General (Kurt Carley), sporting steampunk goggles and a metal jaw like the Masters of the Universe character Trap Jaw. The vicious murderer spends his days stalking prey on a nearly deserted stretch of highway somewhere in the Southwestern United States. Much like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974), from which the film derives most of its story beats, The Surgeon General is just one member of a family of murderous miscreants—including a surprising appearance by Warwick Davis as his brother Plates whose gimmick is... wait for it... he throws plates at people, and another brother named Brain (Jason Dugre) whose enormous brain rests outside of his skull. When the nuclear family known as The Rockwells suffers a breakdown in the territory patrolled by The Surgeon General, they're in for the shock of their lives when they go to get their car fixed at a mechanic's shop owned by this villainous clan. Though the parents are dispatched almost immediately, their son and daughter make a run for it and attempt to survive whatever's coming their way! Perhaps the most shocking scene in the film doesn't involve violence at all, but finds Jason Dugre's Brain running completely nude down the streets of New York City, showing off everything he's got!
