The Book of Negroes (2015)

Based on the novel of the same name, the 2015 boob tube mini-series The Book of Negroes tells the story of Aminata Diallo (Aunjanue Ellis) who, at the age of eleven, is abducted from Africa and sold into slavery in South Carolina by ruthless slave traders. Aminata must navigate her way through the Revolutionary War in New York, overcome isolation and loneliness in Nova Scotia and survive her journey through the treacherous jungles of Sierra Leone, before she experiences freedom in England at the beginning of the 19th century. If you can imagine, nestled comfortably in a tale full of sadness and hostile, there’s a love story. Through all her trials and tribulations, Aminata finds time to marry and bed her hubby, Chekura (Lyriq Bent). And it’s easy to fall in love with Bent, especially once you see him with his shirt off and gaze at his tight upper body. Sexy!
