The Cold Lands (2013)

Set in the Catskills Mountains, the intimate drama The Cold Lands (2013) follows the young hero Atticus (Silas Yelich) who lives with his single mother Nicole (Lili Taylor), a janitor who works late nights at an office building. Atticus’ world gets turned upside down when his hard-as-nails mother dies of an illness that she’s concealed from him. Scared, confused and unwilling to accept his mom’s mortality, Atticus goes on the run, hiding out in the forest near his home, living on a meager amount of food and shelter. Things start to look brighter when the runaway kid crosses paths with Carter (Peter Scanavino), a dirty and scruffy hippie that lives out of his car, selling handmade necklaces at festivals and concerts. The unlikely duo soon form an alliance where they become dependant on each other, but team up quickly turns into a classic case of the blind leading the blind.
