The Mother (2003)

No matter what country you call home, moms are valued in the culture — and on film per Alfonso Cuarón’s Mexican romance And Your Mother Too (2001), Dario Argento’s Italian chiller diller Mother of Tears (2007), Bong Joon Ho’s South Korean mystery Mother (2009), the French/Spanish pic Mother (2019), the Japanese thriller Mother (2020), and the Polish action flick Mother’s Day (2023). Here in the states, yanks have always enjoyed mom-themed sitcoms such as My Mother the Car (1965-1966), How I Met Your Mother (2005-2014), Odd Mom Out (2015-2017) and Mom (2013-2021). And this doesn’t even include all of the versions of Mother Knows Best (1928, 1971, 1997, 2018). Needless to say, there’s a lotta mama movies, from the comic Serial Mom (1994) by John Waters and Mother (1996) by Albert Brooks to the more recent eerie fantasies including Mother/Android (2021) and Darren Aronofsky’s mother! (2017) with the musical Mommy’s Box (2016) in between. Of course, The Mother (2003) puts the load into motherload! Not to be confused with The Mother (2023) starring Jennifer Lopez, this R-rated flick follows a British widow named May (Anne Reid) who pursues her love of sketching — and screwing. As such, she hooks up with a young carpenter called Darren (Daniel Craig) who proves to be a stud! After the topless bloke bangs his cougar from behind, he gets up to get dressed, baring his beautiful behind. Alas, Darren is just using May, but that’s okay since we’re just using this movie to see Daniel’s booty!
