Controversial Danish auteur Lars von Trier stirred the pot once again with his experimental and very artsy drama Manderlay (2005), a sort of sequel to his Brechtian masterpiece Dogville (2003). Filmed entirely on an extremely sparse set, it tells a story set in and about America—a country von Trier has never actually visited—and dealing with slavery specifically (albeit set in the 1930s). U.S.-based Ivorian actor Isaach de Bankolé (who has worked extensively with a different American art-house director: Jim Jarmusch) plays Timothy, who livens things up with some serious nudity at a few different points in the film. Towards the end of the film, we get a nice look at his great ass while he bangs Bryce Dallas Howard’s character from behind for a while, and then a short glimpse again while he lies on a bed. And just after that we get to see his decidedly not short dong while he lies, again, on a bed! Say what you will about those pretentious European art filmmakers, but they sure know how to do nudity right!
