The Tough Ones (1999)

Sometimes it’s tough to decipher one tough-titled film from another. For example, there’s the Yugoslavian movie The Tough Ones (1968) with Jovan Janićijević Burduš and the Italian pic The Tough Ones (1976) starring Maurizio Merli and Arthur Kennedy. Then there’s the Finnish flick The Tough Ones (1999). Under the pen and direction of Aleksi Mäkelä, this crime drama is also known as  Häjyt. The action kicks in when three friends — Jussi Murikka (Samuli Edelmann), Antti Karhu (Juha Viejonon) and Heikki Grönberg ( Teemu Lehtilä) — rob a bank. Unfortunately, the first two get caught and are sent to prison. But luckily, Heikki gets away and begins to change his ways by becoming a cop. When Jussi and Antti are finally free, Heikki tries to help them acclimate to small town life. Alas, old habits die hard and the ex-cons start an underground liquor business where they sell their goods to kids — which is not good. What’s great about this movie is the dudity! In one scene, Mr. Edelmann goes full frontal as his character tries to fix a tractor. No doubt, he’ll get your motor running when you get a glance at his bare chest, bushy pubes, and cock and balls! If that’s not arousing enough, the uninhibited actor reveals his pale rump. No wonder this pic was the country’s official Best Foreign Language Film submission at the 72nd Academy Awards. Even though the movie failed to nab a nomination, Mr. Man is ready to submit his nab to Samuli!
