Based on the William S. Burroughs novella of the same name, Queer (2024) is the second film of 2024 from acclaimed director Luca Guadagnino and stars Daniel Craig as William Lee, an American expat living in Mexico City in the mid-1950s. Lee spends his nights cruising the bars looking for younger men, soon becoming obsessed with fellow American expat Eugene Allerton (Drew Starkey). The two begin a passionate love affair, but Eugene is wrestling with his identity still, not willing to call himself queer or live as openly as Lee. Perhaps the cure for what ails Eugene is in the Ecuadorian jungle, where Lee has heard of a mysterious doctor who brews a concoction that unlocks telepathic abilities, though this isn't the kind of story where the two take a trip and it magically cures all of their problems. Sorry.
However, if you don't mind all the depressing story beats, the sex and nudity are top notch! Though Daniel Craig doesn't revert to his early days and let it all hang out, we do get some phenomenal full frontal from nudecomer Omar Apollo as a hustler hooking up with Craig!
