Blockbuster movies came and went throughout the summer of 2022, but one stood head and shoulders above the rest: Top Gun: Maverick (2022). Flying into theaters three dozen years after Top Gun (1986) dominated the box office, this sequel finds Pete "Maverick" Mitchell (Tom Cruise) getting sent back to the Top Gun program by his old buddy Iceman (Val Kilmer), this time as an instructor for a new group of hotshot pilots. Among the bunch is Rooster (Miles Teller), the son of Maverick's old partner Goose, who (not incorrectly, we might add) holds Maverick responsible for his father's death. Before long, Maverick is helping these young guys navigate the highway to the danger zone, but not before taking some time to engage in Top Gun's favorite pastime—in the words of Kenny Loggins' song—playing with the boys. That's right, get ready for more shirtless homoerotic volleyball playing with Jay Ellis and Glen Powell joining Teller and Cruise to do a little ball handling!
